Before Q4 Gets Busy, I’d Do These Things Now

September always feels like there’s loads of time left in the year.

And then somehow it’s November.

If I knew Q4 was going to be busy, I wouldn’t spend September trying to get more into the diary.

I’d use it to make the busy period easier.

I’d Get Ahead On Visibility

If you know client work is going to take over, create some breathing room now.

Draft the blogs.

Prepare a few social posts.

Organise the photography.

Schedule what you can.

Update the portfolio.

Sort the website tweaks you’ve been putting off.

Your marketing doesn’t need to disappear just because projects get busy.

And doing some of it now means you’re not trying to write an Instagram caption at 9pm after a day on site in November.

I’d Look At Every Deadline Between Now And Christmas

Not just client deadlines.

Invoices.

Content.

Installations.

Photography.

Business admin.

Personal plans.

Christmas.

Put the whole picture in the diary.

Because December-you does not need September-you casually assigning her 14 working days’ worth of jobs.

And once you can see everything, you can make much better decisions about what actually fits.

I’d Close A Few Open Loops

That email you’ve been meaning to send.

The testimonial you haven’t requested.

The project folder that needs archiving.

The website update that’s 80% finished.

The content sitting in drafts.

Before starting five shiny new Q4 initiatives, I’d finish a few things that are already taking up mental space.

Sometimes the quickest way to feel more organised is simply to finish what you’ve already started.

I’d Decide What Can Wait Until January

This one matters.

Not everything needs squeezing in before Christmas.

Some things can deliberately become January jobs.

That’s very different from arriving in January and discovering them there.

Maybe the website redesign can wait.

Maybe the new service launches next year.

Maybe Pinterest doesn’t need to become your latest obsession on 17 November.

Decide now what you’re not doing this quarter.

And I’d Leave Some Space

Probably the least exciting Q4 strategy of all.

Don’t fill every available hour.

Interior design projects change.

Deliveries move.

Clients add things.

Life happens.

A calendar with absolutely no breathing room isn’t an efficient plan.

It’s a plan that only works if nothing goes wrong.

So if I was preparing for a busy Q4, I wouldn’t ask:

“How much can I get done before Christmas?”

I’d ask:

“What can I put in place now that will make the next three months easier?”

Because sometimes getting ahead isn’t about doing more.

It’s about making what’s coming easier to manage.

Want To Make Q4 A Little Easier On Yourself?

If you can already see the website updates, social posts, blogs, SEO jobs and general studio admin being pushed further down the list as client work gets busier, you don’t have to wait until January to deal with it.

Studio Sidekick can be the extra pair of hands keeping those things moving in the background while you concentrate on your projects.

Because getting ahead for Q4 might not mean doing more now. It might mean deciding what you no longer need to do yourself.
